Ateneumissa on nyt esissä näyttely, missä on suuri joukko taiteilijoiden omakuvia eli "selfieitä", joiden tekeminen toki on hiukan vaativampi prosessi kuin esimerkiksi kamerakännykällä kuvaamalla tehdyn version rakentaminen. Mutta oletteko huomanneet että kaikki suuret taiteilijat ovat tehneet aina selfien eli kuvanneet itsensä muotokuvaan. Mutta miksi he tekivät noita melko vaikeasti toteutettavia kuvia, joita ehkä heidän äitinsä laittoi seinälle?

Selfie oli taiteilijan käyntikortti, jolla hän lupasi asiakkailleen jotain. Tuo kuva kertoi siitä, että mikä oli henkilön taiteellinen taso oli, ja mitä häneltä voitiin vaatia, kun hän lähti kauppaamaan esimerkiksi muotokuvatöitä varakkaille ihmisille, jota myös maksaviksi asiakkaiksi kutsutaan. Kyseiset henkilöt maksoivat noista töistä, eli antoivat taiteilijalle leivän pöytään. Joten selfie oli näyte henkilökohtaisesta osaamisesta tuolla erittäin vaativalla taiteen alueella, joka vaati myös asiakkaalta viitseliäisyyttä istua taiteilijan mallina. Eli ennen aikaan ei ollut valokuvauskojeita, joiden avulla taulu voitiin maalata ilman elävää mallia. Näin ollen muotokuva vaati mallin istumista paikoillaan jopa useita tunteja kerrallaan. Ja tämä tietenkin vaati taiteilijoilta jonkinlaisia sosiaalisia taitoja kuten toisen huomioon ottamista sekä myös ymmärtämystä asiakasta kohtaan.

Sen tarkoitus oli myös näyttää taiteilijan omat kasvot asiakkaalle, jotta jos tämä halusi maalauttaa omat lapsensa tai vaimonsa, niin hän saattoi siitä päätellä, että sopiko tuo mies tai nainen tuohon tehtävään. Näet taiteilija saattoi sitten viettää pitkiä aikoja noiden ihmisten läheisyydessä ja kuulla vaikka mitä juttuja, joten hänen piti tietenkin olla myös vaiti kuulemistaan asioista, jotka voivat olla hyvinkin intiimejä tai muuten luottamuksellista tietoa, kuten keskusteluja kirjanpidosta, osakkeista tai sijoittamisesta. Mikäli noita tietoja päästettiin ilmoille ennenaikaisesti, niin asiakkaan yhtiö saattoi saada siitä taloudellisesti suuria tappioita.

Ja kun taiteilija sitten pyysi työtoveriaan malliksi, niin sitten tietenkin tuo kuva oli tarkoitettu palautetta varten, jotta hänen toverinsa voivat sitten sanoa mielipiteensä legendaariseen kysymykseen, että onko tämä kuva yhtään sen näköinen että sitä kehtaa lähteä jollekin asiakkaalle esittämään? Eli tuo muotokuva oli se, minkä taiteilija lähetti liideille arvioitavaksi, jotta tämä sitten saattoi miettiä, että tilaako hän ehkä oman sekä perheensä muotokuvat tuolta taiteilijalta.

The shape of the brain means more than neuro connectivity.

Well, we might say that the brain is in its entirety. Another thing is that all things in the brain have some kind of purpose. The shape of the brain and, especially, the folding of the brain shell are extremely important things. Those folds are expanding the brain's surface areas. Or as you see from the image. The glass fibers are on both sides of the DNA.  DNA molecule is the thing, that involves the genetic code of the cells. Genetically engineered cells can make DNA, and those molecules can used as the nanomaterial's structures. DNA manipulation makes it possible to create new types of extremely strong materials. And those materials are stronger than steel and lighter than it.
