Above the text is a picture from painting " Dalmatian Sea Monster", and that is claimed to portrait the underground civilization or underground society. When we are thinking about underground civilizations in the time when the Iliad and Odyssey have been written, we must realize, that in those historical periods there were not many people in each tribe, and of course in that time historians wanted to show their patriotism in every way they could.

The patriotism was necessary because if those historians were not supported the political leaders, they could be executed. This is why philosophers like Plato were told many stories about the bravery of their home state and in this time the enemy wanted to see tougher than they really were. And maybe Atlantis was the city in some island, what exploded, and if there were no survivors, that city was the good choice for making writings, where brave Athenian phalanx took notorious victory about those people.

But I missed the thing, what I planned to write. And let's think about this painting more careful, and here we see one thing, there are many caves on the coast of Dalmatia. Maybe there were some secret societies, what members were pirates and lurked in the caves. In the case of underground civilizations, we must remember, that in the ancient time could be people or tribes, who live in the underground grottoes, and of course, they expanded their living space by digging those caves bigger. When we are thinking about the advanced technology about those societies, the diving suits, what made by the skin of catfish or shark could be something, what the travelers ever have seen. And the breathing equipment, what was made by urinary bladder, and could equip with carbon filter could make the impression for the people, who saw that equipment first time.


I sometimes have thought that maybe the stories of the rooms and houses, what are told about the architecture of the underground civilizations are caused, that the person, who told those stories had no worlds or knowledge, what handles about mining technology. In the past the there was no self-evidence, that the people knew the worlds like drill or hack, and that could cause misunderstandings when they told stories about their experiences in the hands of pirates.


And maybe those storytellers did tell their stories by using the words like "there were rooms in underground caves, what are like houses".  In this time the storyteller could mean larger complex inside those caves, what consisted many rooms, and what had restricted entrance. Or maybe those societies were build houses in the giant underground caves, and that has been the reason for those stories about the giant underground cities, what could be like some underground military complexes like Cheyenne mountain in Colorado.
